There’s nothing worse than entering the work’s Christmas party and seeing someone wearing the EXACT same dress of you. (Oh the horror!)
This is where your sewing skills become your superpower. Giving you the chance to make all the design decisions, and come up with something so unique you’ll never see anyone wearing the same outfit as you again.
Below we’ve listed some gorgeous sewing patterns that would be perfect for a festive Christmas party! You deserve it after the year we’ve had. Spoil yourself with a new addition to your wardrobe, it’s almost Christmas after all.
Christmas Party Sewing Patterns
Sewing Bee Pussybow Blouse
This Sewing Bee Pussybow Blouse sewing pattern from Sewmag, is a wonderful pattern for a Christmas party outfit.
Satin is a great fabric choice for this style, giving a luxurious flow to the sleeves, gathering at the wrist to form a buttoned cuff. Chiffon would also be a great choice.
Paired with a pencil skirt or a tailored pair of trousers, alongside a pair of heels, would make for a jolly outfit for your festivities this year!
The Bergenia Jumpsuit
MoodFabrics have a free sewing pattern for a gorgeous jumpsuit. The Bergenia Jumpsuit would make for a fabulous party outfit for the festive season.
We think velvet would be a very festive fabric choice to use for this pattern. Especially in a red, deep red or a forest green. Velvet, or a velour fabric, has a beautiful drape, perfect for the style of this jumpsuit.
This jumpsuit can also be worn for a meal with friends, or a night out! (Meaning it won’t be another Christmas outfit that’s worn once and then thrown to the back of the wardrobe.)
Zadie Jumpsuit
The Zadie Jumpsuit from Paper Theory Patterns is a comfortable jumpsuit to wear, and it comes with options for sleeve length.
This jumpsuit pattern is an easy make as the waist tie means that there’s no need for buttons or zips. Making it easy for the outfit to be taken off and on – no assistance needed!
This jumpsuit would also work well with a fabric that has a draped quality, such as satin, crepe, or velvet/velour.
Misses’ Shift Dress (N6540)
The Misses’ Shift Dress from Sew Direct (New Look Pattern), was a featured make on week 4 of the Great British Sewing Bee, by Cathryn.
View A, the pattern shown in the photo, is the best pattern for a Christmas party. The sleeves and cuffs are gorgeous!
This dress would be best made with cotton type fabrics, crepe, satin or silky type fabrics. With the addition of some lace if you’re feeling extra fancy!
Lyra Dress
This incredibly versatile dress pattern, from Tilly and the Buttons, contains lots of pattern variations – making it the perfect pattern to help you transition between the seasons.
Lyra is also the perfect pattern for improvers and confident beginners, there’s plenty of new techniques for you to learn such as bust darts, a button front opening and a two piece collar and stand.
This dress pattern would look fabulous in Cupro Bark Crepe, which we have available in three different colours – all of which would match the festive period and any other day of the year!
The Lennox Dress
Does this dress not just scream Christmas fun to you? The Lennox Dress from MoodFabrics, is one of their newest dresses. It has a gorgeous silhouette that was just made for velvet/velour – or any kind of stretchy knit fabric!
As velour is particularly slippery to sew with, it is recommended to use a large quantity of pins to ensure your pieces stay in the correct positions.
A velvet or satin like fabric would provide fabulous drapes to the dress, allowing the dress to feel very Christmassy! Perfect for standing under the mistletoe.
Mary Quant-style Minidress
If you love all things vintage, then this Mary Quant-style dress pattern by Alice & Co Patterns. for the Victoria and Albert Museum, may be right up your street!
This is such a beautiful and famous silhouette that is a renowned 60s staple. This pattern would be suitable for almost any occasion, but would definitely make a very stylish Christmas dress. Especially if made with a Christmas fabric like this Burgundy Geometric Cotton Poplin or an ice princess inspired dress using Cupro Bark Crepe in Palma Violet.
If you’re more of a 70s chick, perhaps lengthening the dress to make it more maxi-styled is your preference. Whatever you choose, you can rest assured that everyone at Christmas dinner will be talking about your me-made dress!
Betty Vintage Circle Skirt
Another vintage inspired pattern, this time for a Circle Skirt from Rebecca Page. Complete with a fitted waist and designed for woven fabrics such as; crepe, linen, satin and silk.
This pattern comes in both women’s sizes and women’s curvy sizes, making it a great pattern for most, if not all, body types. We love inclusive sizing! Using a fabric like stain will provide gorgeous pleats/drapes – get twirling on that dance floor.
This Circle Skirt would pair nicely with the Sewing Bee Pussybow Blouse listed at the top of this blog.
Have a wonderful, crafty Christmas!
Love from the Sew Confident Team.
