Are you fed up with throwing out clothes that you don’t get use out of anymore? Maybe your favourite t-shirt has a stain or a hole in it. What if we told you there’s a way you can revamp them or change them into something entirely different. Here are some ways to waste less and save more!
We have a few different classes that touch on how to be more sustainable within ourselves and our sewing – without it feeling like an absolute chore.
Hand Embroidery
Whether you’re a newbie or have a some experience in the craft, hand embroidery is a great way to add a little flair to any item. How about embroidering onto something plain to make it more unique or even designing a patch to cover up imperfections on an old or stained item. At our embroidery classes, you’ll learn the basics of hand embroidery, a variation of stitches to create texture within your design and, even better, materials are included! Our next class, Patch That!, is specifically aimed at embroidering on your existing items so bring a tee, tote or trousers and let’s get stitching.
Next class: Sun 26th June 11:00-13:30
Sew Sustainable: The Eco Class
Looking for a stash buster project? This class is perfect for saving scraps from going to the bin. Our Eco Class, Sew Sustainable aims at using up scrap bits of fabric, and reusing material for a totally different purpose!
In this class, you can reuse towelling material along with old cotton to make kitchen roll or make-up remover pads. Another project taught in the class is how to make a drawstring bag using your recycled fabric. Perfect for packing your loose fruit and veg at the shops! These also make for cute, personal gifts for a friend or family member who is trying to be more sustainable! You can even embroider their initials on them to make them unique.
Next Class: Mon 27th June 18:30-21:00
Our Memory Bear class is the perfect class for reusing fabric that has sentimental value to you. Whether it be baby grows that you’ve kept in a box forever, or an item of clothing that holds treasured memories with a loved one. In this class, you’ll be able to turn your most treasured items into an adorable memory bear for you to cherish forever. The finished item would make for a lovely, heartfelt gift for someone in need of a pick me up – always ready for a cuddle! A great way to make upcycling more personal to you.
